U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) penned a letter to cabinet members of the Biden administration making the case that the president should be removed from office under the 25th amendment.
Cawthorn called on Vice President Kamala Harris to invoke the clause that would remove Biden from office after the deadly U.S. troops from Afghanistan ended in failure and unnecessary and likely preventable loss of life.
“Our nation is at a crisis point,” Cawthorn wrote in a letter to Harris and the rest of the cabinet Thursday. “These times of crisis require intelligence, competence, hardiness, and firm hands at the tiller of the ship of state.”
“The job, ‘Leader of the Free World’, is not a position granted from sympathy, whimsy, or genetic caste, it is a job for which sober-minded citizens select from amongst themselves an individual that is best-suited to defend them from enemies foreign or domestic,” the freshman Republican went on.
“The job, President of these United States is a sacred trust granted to very few in the hopes that they will protect the legacy of this country and the lives of those who inhabit it.
“I cannot sit idly by and watch the nation that I love spiral into death and devastation because our leader cannot discharge his duties,” he said. “There is no time to wait, the time for action is now.”
Cawthorn’s request came hours after a bombing by terrorists took place Kabul’s U.S.-held airport left at least 13 American service members dead, according to Fox News, including 10 Marines, two Army soldiers and a Navy corpsman.
Cawthorn ended his letter to Harris saying, “Madam Vice President, you may be the first to see the truth and the last to act but the act itself -as long as it is noble- would be to your credit and a service to our country.”
