Release of Trump's tax returns offers dangerous precedent

Democrats recently received six years of former President Donald Trump's tax returns shared with the public but this may have set a dangerous precedent that will hurt the party in the future.

The move has left several people suggesting Democrats will one day regret their decision to push for Trump's tax return statements.

What about the left?

Rogan O'Handley said he hopes to see the tax returns of other leaders, such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY).

"I’m actually glad SCOTUS ruled Trump had to turn over his tax returns b/c Deep State just created a legal precedent they’re going to severely regret," he tweeted.

"Let’s start seeing *everybody’s* tax returns starting w/McConnell, Pelosi, Schiff, and Cheney Sunlight is the best disinfectant!" he added.

Biden too!

Conservative commentator and Fox News host Mark Levin shared similar words.

“Trump’s tax returns are, in truth, terrific. Now, let’s get the Pelosi, Schumer, Biden S Corp, Roberts, Garland, and all the others!” he said.

Trump blasted the move in his own statement on Truth Social following the decision to release his tax returns.

“The Democrats should have never done it, the Supreme Court should have never approved it, and it’s going to lead to horrible things for so many people. The great USA divide will now grow far worse," he wrote.

“The ‘Trump’ tax returns once again show how proudly successful I have been and how I have been able to use depreciation and various other tax deductions as an incentive for creating thousands of jobs and magnificent structures and enterprises,” he said.

The Jan. 6 House committee has continued to pursue efforts to discredit Trump, but has failed to succeed. In its final weeks, the team chose to withdraw its subpoena, with Cheney and Kinzinger both leaving office after the 2022 term ends.
