Russia’s struggles in Ukraine could lead China to rethink its plans for Taiwan, according to one GOP senator.
Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Jack Reed, who serves as chairman of the Senate Armed Forces Committee, shared his thoughts on Wednesday.
The ineptitude displayed by Russia’s military throughout the first four weeks of its invasion of Ukraine could lead China to reconsider its plans for Taiwan, @SenJackReed, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, believes.

“China is looking at Russia, too, and they’re beginning to ask questions,” Reed explained.
“I think the Chinese leadership also has the suspicion that their military has not been involved in a major combat since the Korean War … it has not been tested, and they might be getting second thoughts about, ‘How reliable will our forces be if we do that?'” he added.

Russia did not expect a strong resistance from Ukraine. It also did not likely expect as much support from other nations for Ukraine and against Russia’s invasion.
The results may help prevent China from moving forward with plans for Taiwan, though nothing is certain regarding China’s next move.
