GOP's Schweikert wins tight Arizona House race

Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) pulled out a victory that puts Republicans closer to a majority in the House of Representatives, the Western Journal reported. President Joe Biden could face impeachment if the GOP prevails and fulfills its promise.

Election Day came and went on Tuesday, Nov. 8 in the midterm. Still, counting continued has continued more than a week after, though it somehow ends when the Democrat is declared the winner.

Still, Schweikert defeated Jevin Hodge, his Democratic challenger, in Arizona's 1st Congressional District in a race that was called late Sunday. This victory was anyone's bet considering Schweikert had been an incumbent for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District until redistricting threw him into a different sort of race.

Republicans have edged closer to the 218 needed to take the majority, which could spell trouble for Biden. Republicans have many bones to pick with the Democratic president and could choose one or several avenues to pursue.

"There is a burning desire by Republicans to provide some type of oversight to the Biden administration," Rep. James Comer (R-KY), who is a GOP ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, said to ABC News. "We're going to be under a lot of pressure to perform, but I think we will be up to the task."

Firstly, Biden hastily withdrew troops from Afghanistan in Aug. 2021, causing a catastrophe. The nation fell back into Taliban control after two decades of resources and American lives were spent to take control of it.

"These strategic failures are too grave to ignore," an op-ed penned by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Comer, and other high-profile Republicans said shortly after the first anniversary of the debacle. "That is why House Republicans are committed to pursuing answers to Biden's disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal," they wrote.

Secondly, Republicans are incensed over the mounting evidence of corruption from the president's son, Hunter Biden, that has largely been ignored. The younger Biden's alleged shady dealings overseas and the elder Biden's possible involvement have become sticking points for a GOP eager to bring these deeds to light.

"I think you're gonna see some action on holding a hearing about the Biden family," Comer said. He went on to add that it would "potentially" be the first investigative order of business.

Thirdly, Joe Biden's Department of Justice raided of former President Donald Trump's personal residence, and that reeks of retribution against a political enemy. "I've seen enough," a statement from McCarthy said about the unprecedented action.

"The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization. When Republicans take back the House, we will conduct immediate oversight of this department, follow the facts, and leave no stone unturned," McCarthy added.

Republicans have several more scandals to choose from, not the least of which are Biden's mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic and foreign relations with China. Biden should be prepared for the onslaught as Republicans gain the edge -- the only question now is which one they'll choose first.
