Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is hated by the left because he’s allowed his constituents to live and breathe free. This ire prompted the leftist media to spin out about his whereabouts over the holidays.
While leftists were hysterical that DeSantis was “missing” during a spike in COVID-19 in his state, the GOP lawmaker was accompanying his wife to her cancer treatments, Fox News reported. Casey DeSantis was diagnosed with breast cancer in October.
Florida’s first lady is fighting for her life and her husband made the decision to accompany her to her treatment on Dec. 29. The couple has three children under five years old, according to The Hill.
Still, the governor’s absence prompted many to pile on with questions about his whereabouts. “Our residents, all Florida residents should be outraged, and they should ask the question, ‘Now, where’s our state? Where’s our governor?'” Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said.
“Where is Ron DeSantis now?” he goaded. “When was the last time you saw the governor do a press briefing regarding COVID-19?”
Other high-profile leftists similarly joined the fray. New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who was vacationing in the Sunshine State, said DeSantis was “inexplicably missing” from the public eye.
“Hasn’t Gov. DeSantis been inexplicably missing for like 2 weeks,” the Democratic lawmaker tweeted. “If he’s around, I would be happy to say hello. His social media team seems to have been posting old photos for weeks,” she incorrectly charged.
MSNBC host and professional grifter Joy Reid similarly exploited DeSantis’s absence to take potshots. “A governor, not governing during a crisis; and sunning his belly on vacation instead. @GovRonDeSantis is the Nero of Ted Cruzes,” she tweeted.
DeSantis’s team responded to critics with information about Casey DeSantis’s treatment and an image of his full professional schedule, but none of the leftists have apologized or backed off from their criticism. The governor has a right to take a break during the holidays regardless, but it’s disgraceful that he’s being criticized for being with his seriously-ill wife.
