Psaki claim about ‘safe smoking kits’ debunked amid her WH departure

Though Friday was departing White House press secretary Jen Psaki’s last day on the job, fresh reporting from the Washington Free Beacon reveals that a claim she vehemently made earlier this year about a “harm reduction” grant program set to distribute “safe smoking kits” may continue to haunt her due to its glaring falsity.

The controversy arose back in February when the Free Beacon reported that a $30 million initiative was being launched by the Biden administration and that it would pay for the distribution of kits that included complimentary crack pipes to addicts in urban areas.

Psaki was asked at the time to comment on the outlet’s shocking discovery, and she offered an unequivocal denial of the Free Beacon’s report, saying, “[Crack pipes] were never a part of the kit, it was inaccurate reporting. A safe smoking kit may contain alcohol swabs, lip balm, and other materials to promote hygiene and reduce the transmission of diseases.”

Later that same week, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra issued a statement declaring the administration to be “focused on using our resources smartly to reduce harm and save lives,” adding that “no federal funding will be used directly or through subsequent reimbursement of grantees to put pipes in safe smoking kits.”

In addition, the usual suspects among the mainstream media “fact-checkers” kicked into high gear to provide back-up for Psaki and Becerra’s assurances, with Michelle Shen of USA Today answering the question of “What’s inside a safe smoking kit?” by answering, “No, it’s not a crack pipe.”

Aaron Rupar, formerly of Vox, echoed the party line, saying that the crack pipe allegation was a “lie,” and “Fox News-fueled hysteria,” with the Daily Beast and Snopes also doing their best to cast serious doubt on the Free Beacon’s reporting on the matter.

In light of the Free Beacon’s most recent revelations, however, it is apparent that neither Psaki, Becerra, nor any of the left-leaning news organizations told the truth or conducted any actual investigation of the facts, something that, while not terribly surprising, is infuriating just the same.

Reporter Patrick Hauf, upon probing the safe smoking kits being distributed in several major American cities, found that crack pipes were indeed made available to recipients in Boston, Washington, D.C., New York City, Baltimore, and Richmond, Virginia and were accessible without any requirement or offer of drug rehabilitation assistance of any kind.

Though Psaki was reportedly emotional during her last appearance at the briefing room podium on Friday, it seems doubtful that any tears shed were ones of remorse for the blatant dishonesty and disdain she, together with her colleagues and media allies, showed for the American people throughout her disgraceful tenure as press secretary.
