Former President Donald Trump dominated the leaders in a hypothetical 2024 Republican primary, according to a McLaughlin & Associates survey released this week.
The survey asked likely Republican voters, “Thinking ahead to the 2024 Republican primary election for President, if that election were held today among the following candidates, for whom would you vote?”
Trump led with 59 percent of the responses. Only one other contender even ranked in double digits among the 15 options.

Former Vice President Mike Pence ranked second with 10 percent of the vote. The ranking was somewhat surprising given his seemingly falling out with Trump over the 2020 election results.
Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis ranked a close third at eight percent. DeSantis has become known for his strong opposition to pandemic lockdowns and mask wearing requirements.
DeSantis has also risen in popularity for attacking Dr. Antony Fauci and President Joe Biden in recent months, offering one of the strongest responses from a GOP leader that have attracted the attention of many Americans.
The hypothetical survey is still very early, but reveals many voters still prefer Trump well over any contender. As the midterms approach, Americans will be waiting for a clear sign regarding whether Trump will make a comeback bid in 2024.
