Polling data shows Joe Biden's SOTU address not sitting well with Americans, Trump's speeches far more popular

A CNN survey revealed that President Joe Biden's State of the Union address did not measure up to former President Donald Trump's appearances during his tenure, Breitbart reported. Trump's speeches received nearly two-thirds more "very positive" ratings than Biden's.

The survey followed Biden's SOTU address Tuesday night. The network's poll found that 72% of respondents felt "somewhat" positive about Biden's speech, a similar number to Trump, who garnered 74%.

However, among those who reported feeling "very" positive, Biden received only 38% compared to Trump's 54%. It wasn't just against the most recent past president where Biden fell short, however.

Former President Barack Obama, under whom Biden served as vice president, received a 50% "very" positive response. Both former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton also had "very" positive responses, with 53% and 54%, respectively.

The demographics where Biden did shine were among older people and Democratic voters. The 80-year-old received a "very" positive rating from 52% of people 65 and older.

He also received a 62% "very" positive rating from Democrats. Notably, only 21% of people 45 and younger gave Biden a "very" positive rating indicating possible political trouble ahead..

The political impact of SOTU speeches is typically minimal, but Biden should be worried that he's failing to make a positive impact as his re-election looms next year. He has not announced his candidacy, but his showing Tuesday provided plenty of ammunition for his critics, Fox News reported.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) noted that Biden's speech was "divisive" and that his messaging and delivery were in "sharp contrast" to the way Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders delivered the Republican rebuttal. "It was angry," Cruz said of Biden's speech on "Hannity."

"It was out of touch, and it was fundamentally dishonest," he added. "Throughout the speech, Biden would periodically just scream out randomly."

"He reminded me of a crotchety old guy on his front porch screaming at the kids: 'Get off my lawn'" Cruz quipped. He also said Biden was  "deliberately dishonest" to the American people.

Cruz went on to say that Biden has governed from the far left and exacerbated many crises. "The American people are unhappy with the direction of this country," the Texas Republican noted.

"Two-thirds of the American people believe we're on the wrong track. Inflation's out of control. Crime's out of control. The southern border is out of control," Cruz said.

"He could have acknowledged all that and said, 'We're going to change course,' He didn't do that," Cruz added.

Biden's showing at the SOTU is indicative of his entire presidency thus far. He's always ready with criticisms for his opponents and excuses for his party, but no issue he has ever touched has gotten better -- and that's why Trump has a great chance to beat him in 2024.
