A newly released poll found that a solid majority of 171 senior Capitol Hill congressional aids believe that Republicans will roar back and take the House majority in the 2022 election — retiring current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for good, according to Breitbart News.
The survey, which was anonymous, was conducted between April 13 and 19 online through Locust Street Group in partnership with Punchbowl News.
“Members of Congress are the ones with the election certificates, but, in many cases, their aides hold outsized power. Senior staffers are the gatekeepers and, in many cases, the decision-makers,” Punchbowl News said in their report.
Who will hold the majority after the upcoming election has been an issue of much concern to both parties, thanks to Democrats’ hold on the House, Senate, and Executive branch following the 2020 election.
Republicans have a plan to take back the House, however, lead by the National Republican Congressional Committee who have a list of 57 seats that they believe are vulnerable to be flipped in the upcoming midterm election.
While Democrats will of course try to do some flipping of their own, Pelosi’s slim six-seat majority is an uncomfortable position for the most powerful woman in the nation.
In the survey, aids were also questioned about what they believe to be some of the top issues facing representatives on Capitol Hill and 74 percent said they believed infrastructure was on the top of the agenda, and that it would pass Congress. Forty-eight percent said they thought the tax plan was a key issue and 42 percent thought prescription drug costs would be a topic of concern.
In addition to the six-seat majority, there are five vacancies in the House brought on by the death of their previous position holders, of which four were Democrats and one was a Republican.
