Poll: Most Americans ‘checked out’ on COVID crisis, to Dems’ chagrin

Though the COVID-19 pandemic afforded Democrats an unprecedented ability to fulfill their most expansive authoritarian fantasies, it appears that for most Americans, the crisis is now over, as The Hill reports, and there is likely little the left can do to reclaim those wrongfully seized powers over the populace.

Despite something of a recent uptick in COVID-19 infections across the country, a recent Axios-Ipsos survey revealed that a mere 36% of Americans feel they face serious risk by resuming their “normal pre-coronavirus life.”

Even though health authorities now suggest that in some parts of the United States, rising case numbers call for a return to certain pandemic mitigation efforts such as masking, the poll results show that such measures are unlikely to gain much traction.

“People have checked out a little bit. People aren’t as tuned in” when it comes to the latest COVID-19 data and threat levels in their immediate area, according to Chris Jackson, senior vice president at the Ipsos polling firm.

The decline in widespread amenability to pandemic precautions was further underscored last week when Democrat New York City Mayor Eric Adams indicated that he would not reinstate mask mandates even amid a case spike currently underway in the Big Apple, as The Hill explained.

“It appears as though there’s a new norm that is settling in our city and our country. Variants are going to come. If every variant that comes, we move into shutdown thoughts, we move into panicking, we’re not going to function as a city,” Adams declared.

Even Andy Slavitt, a former Biden administration senior COVID-19 response adviser, had to admit that Americans’ pandemic fatigue may be insurmountable in terms of reimposing the draconian restrictions and rules to which Democrats hewed so closely since early 2020.

“You have to understand that at this point in time that you can’t make people necessarily care more than they do,” Slavitt lamented, adding – in seeming disappointment – that there remain “fewer policy levers” at the government’s disposal.

Grasping at the last chance to reinforce the panicked narrative emblematic of the left for the past two years, Democrats are still insisting that massive spending on COVID-19 is necessary to pay for therapeutics, testing, and vaccines, and in what may be an attempt to stoke yet a new variant of fear among the citizenry, President Joe Biden warned Sunday that the monkeypox outbreak making headlines in recent days is something that should concern “everybody.”

Who would have thought Americans would have rolled over and complied with all the dictates and mandates when virus hysteria first emerged in March 2020? If people are looking for guaranties and safety, they apparently willingly forfeit their rights and individual choices. Lockdown 2.0, coming to cities and states near you soon.
