A poll released on Wednesday by Cygnal revealed that Michigan voters are so fed up with Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer that the majority are willing to fire her in favor of any Republican challenger, Breitbart reported.
The poll cited by the outlet was released on Wednesday by Cygnal and asked likely voters in the 2022 general election if they would prefer Witmer to a “generic Republican.”
Results showed that among the 600 voters Witmer had an approval rating of 41.1 percent and a job disapproval rating of 53.7 percent.
According to Breitbart, around 41 percent believe Whitmer should be reelected and 55.5 percent said it is “time for someone new.”
This result is significant because there is no positive value attributed to the “new” candidate, rather the negative results are only due to the press that Whitmer has surrounded her tumultuous administration.
When questioned about the “generic Republican” around 52 percent said they’d prefer someone from the right over their current governor.
However, Cygnal did note that the survey “is based on a projected turnout model inline with historical midterm election voter trends.”
“While most Governors in the country – regardless of party affiliation – came out of the pandemic with strong marks for their leadership, Governor Whitmer appears to have used it as an opportunity to make voters like her less,” Cygnal CEO Brent Buchanan said in a news release.
“Heck, only 41 percent believe Whitmer should be re-elected. That’s a rough place to be seventeen months from Election Day.”
Whitmer was the focus of frustration not just from conservatives, during the coronavirus pandemic over her drastic measures, including banning shoppers from portions of a store deemed “non-essential.”
