Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer beat Republican Bill Schuette in 2018 by promising to improve the job market in the state, protect the freedoms of all Michiganders, and hold the government accountable to the will of the people.
Her promise to voters was that she would be “a governor who can get things done that will actually make a difference in people’s lives right now.”
Whitmer did make a difference in people’s lives — but it wasn’t a good one. Whitmer took coronavirus lockdowns to further extremes than any other governor, and the people of Michigan are paying for it.
Michigan has lost millions of jobs and countless businesses because of Whitmer’s lockdown orders. She relentlessly attacked business owners just trying to stay above water, and the state still suffered one of the highest COVID-19 death tolls in the nation.
Whitmer promised to protect and champion the people of Michigan in 2018. Has she fulfilled her promise?
