Poll: Arizona voters aren’t happy with Biden’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal

President Joe Biden botched the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan. The problem for him is that the people in one key swing state have started to notice.

An Arizona Public Opinion Pulse found that 62% of voters in the state disapprove of Biden’s handling of the situation in Afghanistan, Breitbart reported. This is significant considering the president won Arizona in the 2020 election.

The survey, conducted earlier this month, asked over 800 registered voters, “Do you approve or disapprove of [the] way Joe Biden handled the situation in Afghanistan?” Though the answers broke along party lines, a majority of voters chose the latter.

Of those who disapproved, 48% said they “strongly” disapproved while only 31% approved of his Afghanistan strategy. However, along party lines, 90% of Republicans and 64% of independents disapproved while 61% percent of Democrats actually reported their approval with his withdrawal.

As for the question of whether the U.S. should have left Afghanistan in the first place, 60% of Arizona voters agreed it was the right decision. However, though they answered in the affirmative that it was “right to leave Afghanistan,” they thought “we could have left in a more orderly manner.” A majority, 83%, thought America had a duty to continue trying to get the Americans still stranded there out.

“Even though Arizona voters vastly agree that pulling U.S. troops from Afghanistan was the right move, most are unhappy with the way President Biden went about it, and their disappointment is being reflected in Biden’s plummeting ratings,” OHPI Chief of Research Mike Noble said in a statement.  “However, we’ve seen time heal bigger wounds, and the president still has the majority of his term to make it up to the electorate.”

There are still at least 100 Americans still trapped in Afghanistan, a fact that is only the tip of the iceberg of this foreign policy disaster, according to Fox News. This comes as U.S. forces have been completely evacuated and the Taliban has retaken much of the country.

Arizona is a swing state, but there are few in either party who can confidently say Biden is doing a good job. Democrats should be bracing for a defeat in the 2022 midterms.
