According to Philadelphia police, “On April 15, 2019, the complainant stated to Philadelphia police that on August 12, 2017, he was sexually assaulted.”
Detectives also say, “Smith was in a vehicle and approached the complainant, stating that he was a family friend, and offered to give him a ride home.”
Smith is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Reports state it remains unclear why the incident took so long to lead to an arrest. The case remains under investigation and the township has agreed to work with police to the fullest extent possible.
Smith’s arrest comes as Philadelphia ended 2021 with surging levels of crime and record homicides, leading to growing pushback over Democratic plans regarding policing and radical efforts to defund the police.
