House Speaker Nancy Pelosi met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Saturday in a surprise visit.

Pelosi shared America’s solidarity with Ukraine during the unannounced visit with the Ukrainian leader.

Pelosi’s statement

“Our Congressional Delegation had the solemn opportunity and extraordinary honor of meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other top Ukrainian officials in Kyiv,” Pelosi said in a statement.

“Our delegation traveled to Kyiv to send an unmistakable and resounding message to the entire world: America stands firmly with Ukraine,” she added.

Further informed and deeply moved by our experiences throughout our engagements in Poland, our delegation will return to Washington ready to continue our work until victory is won, and Ukraine has defended Democracy for their nation and the world. https://t.co/cyXVqDoSK9

No Biden?

Despite Pelosi’s visit, President Joe Biden has no plans to visit Ukraine.

“This is a country at war. I can’t imagine that that would be on the table,” Thomas-Greenfield told CNN’s State of the Union host Jake Tapper recently.

An invitation was extended to Biden after U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited in April.

In addition, Vice President Kamala Harris has also not announced any plans to visit Ukraine, despite the leaders of many nations making appearances in Kyiv.

The visit by Pelosi was better than nothing but revealed the ongoing weakness of the White House, which is unwilling to send its top leaders to the same places the leaders of other nations have recently appeared.
