House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) had no problem leaving D.C. without getting an economic relief deal done on behalf of the American people, but she will rush back to Washington to conduct a hearing on the growing USPS “scandal.”
Pelosi issued a press released on Monday confirming that Democrats are holding an emergency hearing to grill Postmaster General Louis DeJoy on Augst 24.
Democrats have manufactured a scandal in the last several weeks claiming that President Trump is attempting to “kneecap” the postal service in order to prevent the Democrats’ cherished mail-in voting scheme from becoming a reality.
Pelosi proclaimed in the press release:
The hearing will examine the sweeping operational and organizational changes at the Postal Service that experts warn could degrade delivery standards, slow the mail and potentially impair the rights of eligible Americans to cast their votes through the mail in the upcoming November elections. T
he Postmaster General and top Postal Service leadership must answer to the Congress and the American people as to why they are pushing these dangerous new policies that threaten to silence the voices of millions, just months before the election.
Pelosi’s screed accused Trump of attempting to “manipulate the Postal Service to deny eligible voters access to the ballot in pursuit of his own re-election,” and claimed that DeJoy is acting as an “accomplice” in Trump’s plan to “cheat in the election, as he launches sweeping new operational changes that degrade delivery standards and delay the mail.”
Democrats failed to address the fact that the US postal service has been failing for years. The Brookings Instituted pointed out in 2015 — seven years into Barack Obama’s presidency — that the USPS was on the verge of bankruptcy with $15 billion debt. The USPS struggles are nothing new, but Democrats are already preparing their case for undermining Trump’s second win.
