Pelosi says she’s watching out for trucker freedom convoy headed to DC

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) says she is monitoring reports of a trucker freedom convoy planning to arrive in Washington, D.C., ahead of President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.

The convoy, following the lead of Canada’s Freedom Convoy that shut down the capital of Ottawa for three weeks, hopes to bring thousands of truckers to Washington to protest the Biden administration’s handling of the pandemic.

“We are monitoring the situation closely but deferred to the USCP, which is in charge of security,” Drew Hammill, spokesperson for Pelosi, told Fox News.

U.S. Capitol Police have prepared by putting up a fence around the Capitol building ahead of Biden’s speech.

“The United States Capitol Police and the United States Secret Service have been closely working together to plan for the upcoming State of the Union,” the U.S. Capitol Police said in a statement Friday.

“The temporary inner-perimeter fence is part of those ongoing discussions and remains an option, however at this time no decision has been made.”

The events also come as Biden deals with Putin’s aggression toward Ukraine that continues to reveal his foreign policy weaknesses.
