President Joe Biden’s approval ratings are tanking, and Americans are fed up with the Democrats. Yet somehow, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is optimistic — does she know something everyone else doesn’t?
Pelosi is confident Democrats will keep their majority in the House of Representatives in the 2022 midterms, according to Breitbart. The Speaker made her remarks out of the blue during an East Hartford, Connecticut appearance Wednesday — signalling that Democrats are very much preoccupied with the upcoming midterm elections.
“In terms of the elections … I know we will win in the Congress,” Pelosi said about the midterms. “People say, ‘Well, in the off-year, it’s not the good year.’ But, I think any assumptions about politics are obsolete. We live in a whole new world of communication and the rest.”
Pelosi believes that Democrats running without former President Donald Trump on the ballot “will survive next year because Trump’s not on the ballot.” That seems irrelevant considering what she’s up against.
Currently, there are at least eight departures from Congress by lawmakers either seeking higher office or stepping down. These include members from swing states like Reps. Tim Ryan (D-OH) and Conor Lamb (D-PA).
Democrats also have to contend with owning all of the lousy policies as they maintain a razor-thin majority in the House, a one-vote majority in the Senate with Vice President Kamala Harris as the tiebreaker, and of course, the presidency. So far, things aren’t going well at all.
Among registered voters, 50% disapprove of the job Biden is doing versus 42% who approve, the New York Post reported. Notably, he’s losing ground in six swing states after his botched withdrawal from Afghanistan and ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that he’d promised to bring under control.
It’s difficult to understand how Pelosi can be so optimistic in the face of such odds unless she knows something everyone else doesn’t. The most likely reason is that she’s trying to encourage her base by projecting confidence — even as her majority appears to be vanishing before her eyes.
