The 117th Congress is already planning on literally changing America as we know it, with progressives in both chambers of Congress chomping at the bit over the possibility of controlling the House, the Senate and the White House.
According to Breitbart, after narrowly winning her fourth, non-consecutive term as the leader of the lower chamber, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) reassured her colleagues and Democratic voters across the nation that she’s all about implementing a radical new agenda.
The newly-minted speaker touched on all of the typical progressive talking points as she thanked House members for voting her into power once again. She added that she was excited to preside over one “of the most diverse House of Representatives in the history of our country, with a record-shattering 122 women.”
Unfortunately for Pelosi, she’ll have to work her decades of experience in politics in order to make headway on any pieces of legislation, as she not only has to battle the handicap of having the slimmest majority control in modern House history, but also the fact that a number of her moderate colleagues believe she’s going too far left.
But that didn’t stop her from proclaiming that the House’s most “urgent” priority is “defeating the Coronavirus,” while adding that the House will be there for “communities of color and low wealth,” saying that most of the country’s essential workers come from those sectors.
“To build back better in a way that advances justices in America. Indeed the pandemic has pulled back the curtain on and showing and even worsened the disparities in our society. We must pursue justice, economic justice, justice in health, racial justice, environmental and climate justice; the list goes on,” Pelosi announced Sunday on the House floor.
At some point in time, legislative actions like pursuing Medicare For All, the Green New Deal and the further defunding of America’s police departments will probably make their way through the House and through the Senate if Republicans come up short in the Georgia runoff elections.
If former Vice President Joe Biden takes the keys to the White House on January 20 and if Republicans lose control of the upper chamber, it’s nearly guaranteed that we soon won’t recognize the great country we once knew.
