Nancy Pelosi says that Trump’s plan to reopen schools is ‘messing with the health of our children’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) just announced that she believes President Trump’s plan to reopen schools in the fall will jeopardize “the health of our children.”

Despite the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation that policy decisions regarding the upcoming school year should focus on returning children to classrooms, Democrats erupted in furious dissent after President Trump said that he would pressure state governors to prioritize reopening schools.

The backlash was so severe, the AAP issued a statement modifying their position only a few days later.

“Returning to school is important for the healthy development and well-being of children, but we must pursue re-opening in a way that is safe for all students, teachers and staff. Science should drive decision-making on safely reopening schools,” the APP said in a statement released on Friday.

Democrats cannot allow President Trump to be right about anything — even when “the experts” provide the evidence backing his claims. Pelosi is always at the forefront of the opposition to Trump’s statements.

Pelosi declared during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that “This is appalling. … The president and his administration are messing with the health of our children. We all want our children to go back to school β€” teachers do, parents do and children do β€” but they must go back safely.”

Pelosi claimed that going back to school “presents the biggest risk for the spread of the coronavirus,” claiming that Trump and Education Secretary Betsy De Vos, “ignore science, and they ignore governance.”

Pelosi did not respond to the fact that the CDC Director, Dr. Robert Redfield, stated on Wednesday that the agency is “prepared to work with every school district” to craft a plan to safely reopen schools nationwide in the fall.

We’re not sure who Pelosi believes the arbiter of “science” is, but experts at the CDC — according to Redfield — have found that children are “an instrument of transmission with influenza” but that they have not found sufficient “evidence children are driving the transmission cycle.”
