House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has gone completely rogue, defying even her Democrat colleagues by holding the American people hostage in her battle against Donald Trump.
On Tuesday, Pelosi shut down pleas from Democrats and Republicans alike for her to compromise with the GOP to achieve a deal, reportedly telling her fellow Democrats on a call:
I appreciate the, shall we say, a couple people saying, ‘Take it, take it, take it,’ Take it? Take it? Even the president is saying, ‘Go big or go home.’
“We really need to have an agreement, but we cannot have an agreement by just folding,” she told her caucus. “I don’t think our leverage has ever been greater than it is now.”
Pelosi is receiving extreme pushback from even her far-left colleagues for her apparent vendetta against Donald Trump that has Americans caught in the middle.
“Dems can’t wait for the perfect deal,” said Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) on Tuesday. “We have a moral obligation to get folks relief, now.”
The White House offered a $1.8 trillion deal last week to Pelosi, which she immediately rejected because it doesn’t include all of her priorities such as a US Postal Service bailout. She’s indicated that she will not drop below her $2.2 trillion demand, claiming that she still holds leverage over the D.C. GOP.
Former presidential candidate Andrew Yang (D) called Pelosi out as well, telling her to “take the deal” in a tweet on Tuesday. “Nancy Pelosi take this deal!” Yang ordered. “Put politics aside people are hurting.”
Former Obama administration official Dan Pfeiffer chimed in, telling Pelosi that the “potential risks” don’t justify waiting to sign a deal. “It’s the right thing to do, but the politics can also work in our favor,” Pfeiffer said.
Pelosi is now stuck between a rock and a hard place, infuriating legislators on both sides of the aisle with her intractable opposition to compromise with the White House. In the meantime, American families and businesses continue to suffer.
