After the Senate GOP struck a crushing blow to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) election overhaul agenda, Pelosi fumed that Republicans are “suppressing the vote” in an effort to win future elections in an interview with ” theGrio” on Wednesday. Pelosi’s complaints are a reminder that questioning elections is something only Democrats are allowed to do.
According to Democrats, voter fraud and interference don’t exist, but Republican efforts to prevent fraud and interference are akin to suppressing the vote.
Pelosi said, “Because they can’t win any other way. They can’t win any other way. So, they have to suppress the vote. This is a fight for our democracy. Our democracy is at stake now.”
Democrats claim that ensuring our elections are secure will suppress votes, which begs the question, what votes are suppressed? Republicans are working to make it hard to cheat and easy to vote, and that has sent Democrats into an apoplectic fury.
The more indignant Pelosi gets, the more it seems that Democrats are benefitting from voter fraud and election interference. Surely that would explain why they are so desperate to fight back against election security measures proposed by Republicans.
Maybe it is the Democrat Party that “can’t win” without voter fraud. Pelosi went on to claim that “We are at Trenton. We are crossing the Delaware. This is about fighting for America’s democracy. Nothing less is at stake than that.”
Pelosi at least got that part right; we are fighting for the legitimacy of our elections. We must ensure there is no voter fraud and interference invalidating American votes, which is what Republicans are doing.
The 2020 election cycle did untold damage to the trust that Americans have in our election system. That trust can only be regained if bills are passed that will protect the integrity of our elections.
