President Trump updated the nation on the progress being made to combat the COVID-19 epidemic in his first coronavirus briefing since April. He reviewed the number of tests performed, upwards of 50 million, more than any other country, and the status on ventilators. He discussed the drugs being tested and used to treat the symptoms of the virus and talked about the unprecedented and astonishing rapidity of the development of a vaccine.
Throughout the briefing, the president kept the pressure and focus on China as the source of COVID-19 and the reason it spread throughout the world by calling it the “China virus,” which, of course, it is.
Calling COVID-19 the China virus has triggered Democrats and China since the beginning of the pandemic. But after the president’s latest briefing, the most powerful apologist for the communist nation, Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, trotted out to defend China in an interview with Wolf Blitzer, signaling to China that she will cover for them and take care of President Trump.
In a transparent attempt to shift blame from China to the president, Pelosi rolled out the Democrats’ latest strategy to accuse, label, and destroy President Trump on behalf of the People’s Republic of China, calling COVID-19 “the Trump virus.”
Pelosi, trying to link the president’s performance with the name change, said:
I think with the president’s comments today, he has recognized the mistakes that he has made by now embracing mask-wearing and the recognition that this is not a hoax, it is a pandemic that has gotten worse before it gets better because of his inaction and, in fact, clearly, it is the Trump virus.
The Trump virus… if he had said months ago ‘Let’s wear a mask, let’s socially-distance’ instead of having rallies or political whatever they were, then more people would have followed his lead. He’s the president of the United States, instead of being a bad example, making it like a manhood thing not to wear a mask.”
A briefing on the coronavirus should be about science and that is something that the president has ignored. It should be about governance and now he’s finally embracing saying ‘OK, it’s OK to wear a mask.’ So I think a good deal of what we have suffered is clearly the Trump virus.
