Pelosi-backed Senate candidate loses primary to AOC-backed incumbent

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) took a shocking one-two punch to her reputation this week, the effects from which she may not recover.

Pelosi-backed Senate candidate Rep. Joe Kennedy III (D-MA) just lost to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez-backed incumbent Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) in a shocking defeat that some say proves Pelosi is losing control of the Democrat party.

Pelosi was also exposed on Tuesday by a San Francisco hair salon owner after flouting the city’s COVID-19 precautions to get a wash and blow-out. Pelosi is now under attack from progressives and the GOP for her hypocrisy, and it would be a lie to say it’s not entertaining to watch.

Political consultant and pollster Doug Schoen wrote on Wednesday Markey’s win in the high-profile Senate race proves that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez is the most powerful Democrat in America, not Nancy Pelosi — even though Pelosi is officially the highest-ranking Democrat in the US.

Schoen wrote:

Ocasio-Cortez’s active endorsement saved the campaign of incumbent Markey, who was facing a formidable primary challenge from Rep. Joe Kennedy III, D-Mass., a congressman who is the grandson of Robert F. Kennedy.

Markey started the election off well-behind Kennedy but he ended up winning a clear and decisive victory Tuesday night in large part due to Ocasio-Cortez’s active support.

Make no mistake, Markey’s entire campaign message and communication centered on Ocasio-Cortez’s endorsement—in particular, a compelling ad she made for the vulnerable incumbent.

Nancy Pelosi has now made two high-profile endorsements backing establishment candidates challenged by far-left progressives — Rep. Elliot Engel (D-NY) and Kennedy — and both have failed spectacularly.

Kennedy’s loss should be a major wake-up call for Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Both have dismissed Ocasio-Cortez and her far-left “squad” as a group of powerless upstarts, but the 2020 election points to a shifting power dynamic of which Pelosi and Schumer may soon become victims themselves.

President Trump picked up on the message Kennedy’s loss sends to Pelosi and the Democrat establishment: “See, even a Kennedy isn’t safe in the new Radical Left Democrat Party,” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. “Taxes up big, no 2A. Biden has completely lost control. Pelosi strongly backed the loser!”
