Oregon 'jogger rapist' to be released from jail

An Oregon man sentenced to jail for multiple rape charges is scheduled for release, angering many in the community.

Richard Gillmore, known as the "jogger rapist" for following victims while they were running, was arrested in 1986 involving cases with nine women, though he was only sentenced regarding one case.

"In 2016, the parole board stopped giving Gillmore parole hearings and set a scheduled release for January 1, 2023," Breitbart News reported.

"Since Gillmore will be released on December 16 into transitional housing, the terms of his parole will require him to remain on post-prison supervision until December 2034, according to Dylan Arthur, executive director of the parole board via the Oregonian. He could be sent back to prison if he violates his supervision conditions," it added.

The victim in the case has spoken out against the decision, with many others joining in their concerns over the scheduled release.

Gillmore's release seems like a failure of the justice system to Oregon women, adding to existing concerns regarding the state's handling of crime.
