Ocasio-Cortez finally admits it: She wants Nancy Pelosi out of power

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) thinks Democratic leadership needs to change after just weeks ago declaring her support for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) Finally, there is something we can all agree on with her.

Ocasio-Cortez wants Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) out of their leadership positions, The Hill reported. The Congresswoman implied that Pelosi and Schumer were beneficiaries of the party’s power structure and complacency.

AOC made her remarks on Thursday’s “Intercepted with Jeremy Scahill” podcast. In a rare display of humility, the 31-year-old admitted that although she wants Pelosi gone, she doesn’t think it she would be qualified to replace the octogenarian Speaker.

“I do think that we need new leadership in the Democratic Party … the internal dynamics of the House has made it such that there’s very little option for succession,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “It’s easy for someone to say, ‘Oh well, you know, why don’t you run?’ but the House is extraordinarily complex, and I’m not ready. It can’t be me. I know that I couldn’t do that job.”

Ocasi0-Cortez blamed the party for its “lack of…real grooming of a next generation of leadership,” overlooking House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) whom the publication contended is considered the obvious next in line after Pelosi.  “Even conservative members of the party who think Nancy Pelosi is far too liberal for them don’t necessarily have any viable alternatives, which is why whenever there’s a challenge, it kind of collapses,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

Pelosi may face trouble from her party despite her unanimous, unopposed nomination for the position. Pelosi has been courting votes from junior members of Congress since the Democratic majority in the House shrank in the 2020 election, Politico reported.  There were already rumblings of defectors from her last time around, and their majority is slimmer yet after Democrats lost several seats.

Still, without a viable alternative, Ocasio-Cortez worried that changing the status quo could take the party in the wrong direction. “The hesitancy that I have is that I want to make sure that if we’re pointing people in a direction that we have a plan,” she said. “And my concern, and this I acknowledge as a failing as something that we need to sort out, is that there isn’t a plan. How do we fill that vacuum?”

“Because if you create that vacuum, there are so many nefarious forces at play to fill that vacuum with something even worse,” she continued. It’s hard to imagine what a radical like AOC could view as worse than the party’s current shift to the far left. As bad as Pelosi has been, AOC is a Bernie Sanders-supporting, far-left Marxist who is just beginning her political career that could turn into decades of destructive policies. Neither of these women are good for America, but AOC could be exponentially worse than Pelosi.
