North Carolina Republican ahead in latest poll for Senate

North Carolina Republican Senate candidate Ted Budd ranks ahead of Democrat Cheri Beasley by three points in the latest poll.

The Emerson College Polling-CBS17-The Hill survey ranked Budd at 46% over Beasley at 43%.

"Budd's support has fallen by 4 points since an Emerson College Polling-The Hill survey in April found him leading Beasley 50 percent to 46 percent in a hypothetical matchup," the Hill reported.

"The polling falls within the margin of error, which is plus or minus 3 percentage points, effectively tying the two candidates," it added.

The same poll found that former President Donald Trump would currently win against President Joe Biden in North Carolina. Trump polled at 47%, with Biden at 42%.

The new poll is excellent news for Budd but remains too close to celebrate as the two candidates continue a close battle in the weeks ahead of the midterm elections.
