The nonbinary Biden administration staffer who is accused of grand larceny for allegedly stealing luggage from airports in Minnesota and Nevada may be identified by a distinctive T-shirt design, per a police report.
According to a report by The Washington Examiner, Sam Brinton is accused of stealing a suitcase worth $3,670 on July 6 at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas.
Sam Brinton previously held the job of deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition at the Energy Department before being placed on leave earlier this year.
On July 6, a woman who had taken a flight from Washington, D.C., to Las Vegas reported that one of her bags was missing.
After video showed the Biden administration official acting suspiciously before removing a bag from the luggage carousel, it was discovered that Brinton was the perpetrator.
"Brinton demonstrated several signs of abnormal behavior while taking the victim's luggage which are cues suspects typically give off when committing luggage theft," a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department detective wrote in a police report obtained by Fox News.
"Specifically, Brinton pulled the victim's luggage from the carousel and examined the tag. Then placing it back on the carousel, looking in all directions for anyone who might be watching, or might approach. Pulling it back off the carousel and demonstrating the same behavior by looking around before walking away with it quickly," police paperwork went on.
The report added: "Brinton only having checked one piece of luggage, which Brinton had already claimed from the carousel, had no reason to be examining and taking any other pieces of luggage."
In July, no findings had been made in the inquiry into the suspected theft in Las Vegas. However, the detective in charge of the investigation discovered it was the same individual when Brinton was subjected to a comparable accusation in Minnesota.
Because the official was on the same flight as the passenger who reported the luggage missing and because the rainbow-colored atomic sign visible on Brinton's shirt in the security film, authorities were able to positively identify Brinton as the rightful owner.
The investigator discovered a photo of Brinton with the identical clothing in an Instagram post.
The official is accused of stealing a bag containing goods worth $2,325 from a luggage carousel at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, which led to Brinton's arrest in Minnesota in September.
Even though an arrest warrant was filed for Brinton in Nevada on Thursday, the Energy Department has not responded to the fresh claims. Earlier this week, Republican legislators demanded Brinton's resignation, arguing that a U.S. official shouldn't break the country's own laws.
"We demand the resignation of Sam Brinton, and we implore you to set aside petty politics and appoint only the most qualified and dedicated individuals to influence America's energy sector," the letter read. "As an appointed official, Sam Brinton represents both your Department and the United States. It is simply not possible for an individual to represent American values and simultaneously violate the felony laws of the land."
