The New York Times has called on the Democrat National Committee to formally investigate allegations of sexual assault against Joe Biden.
Presumptive Democrat presidential nominee and former Senator Biden is currently navigating how to deal, or not deal, with the claims from former aide, Tara Reade. While some media outlets have left the claims largely unaddressed, there have been loud voices, even from inside the camp of left-leaning democrats that Reade should “be heard.”
Biden spoke out about the allegations for the first time during a much anticipated MSNBC interview in which he flatly denied all the allegations of inappropriate conduct.
“No, it is not true,” Biden said in his interview. “I’m saying unequivocally it never, never happened and it didn’t. It never happened.”
If Biden was hoping the interview would put the matter to rest, he is sorely disappointed.
Even the the notoriously left-leaning New York Times wants more investigation after Biden’s interview.
“As is so often the case in such situations, it is all but impossible to be certain of the truth,” said the Times’ Editorial Board. “But the stakes are too high to let the matter fester — or leave it to be investigated by and adjudicated in the media. Mr. Biden is seeking the nation’s highest office.”
The New York Times stated it wanted the investigation to be a “serious inquiry” asking that “no relevant memo should be left unexamined.” The board included the memos currently being blocked by University of Delaware.
The Times noted that they called for the same serious inquiry into allegations against then Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh:
Last year, this board advocated strongly for a vigorous inquiry into accusations of sexual misconduct raised against Brett Kavanaugh when he was nominated to a seat on the Supreme Court. Mr. Biden’s pursuit of the presidency requires no less,” the board said. “His campaign, and his party, have a duty to assure the public that the accusations are being taken seriously. The Democratic National Committee should move to investigate the matter swiftly and thoroughly, with the full cooperation of the Biden campaign.”
The DNC has not yet responded whether they will formally investigate Biden.
