Officials erected barriers in front of a New York City courthouse Monday ahead of former President Donald Trump's possible arrest, Breitbart reported. They're bracing for protests if Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg indicts the former president in a case pertaining to so-called "hush money" paid to former porn star Stormy Daniels.
"Barriers are going up outside the courthouse where a grand jury is hearing testimony in the 'hush money' case involving @realDonaldTrump," NewsNation's Robert Sherman tweeted Monday. "There's definitely some tension in the air as the city prepares for the possibility of demonstrations should the 45th President be indicted."
Trump allegedly was tipped off to the possibility and shared it on his TruthSocial account over the weekend. The former president called it one of the "illegal leaks from a corrupt & highly political Manhattan District Attorney’s office."
He went on to slam Bragg for corruption and charged that he was elected thanks to funding from George Soros. Trump said that the accusations against him were based on a "fairytale" before announcing he would be "arrested on Tuesday of next week."
"Protest, take our nation back!" Trump urged. It seems the government is preparing for protests by putting up metal barriers around the courthouse which, ironically, is the exact approach leftists derided Trump for taking when it came to immigration in building the border wall.
Several high-profile Republicans stepped to Trump's defense, including House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who has been at odds with the former president at times. "Here we go again — an outrageous abuse of power by a radical DA who lets violent criminals walk as he pursues political vengeance against President Trump," the California Democrat began in his tweet.
"I’m directing relevant committees to immediately investigate if federal funds are being used to subvert our democracy by interfering in elections with politically motivated prosecutions," McCarthy said. Former Vice President Mike Pence similarly put aside differences with Trump to show support.
"It reeks of the kind of political prosecution that we endured back in the days of the Russia hoax and the whole impeachment over a phone call," Pence said. "And one thing I know is — I know that former President Trump can take care of himself," the former vice president added.
"If they can come for Trump, they will come for you. This type of stuff only occurs in third-world authoritarian nations," Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) tweeted.
"The reported upcoming arrest of President Trump by hyper-partisan Soros prosecutor Alvin Bragg is some Third World Banana Republic lunacy and a very, very dangerous road to go down," Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) tweeted in a thread Saturday. "Leftists in the United States are increasingly weaponizing investigations to persecute and prosecute political opponents. It must end."
Through all of this, Trump has made it clear that he won't be intimidated and won't back down. This grit is what made Trump famous and what keeps him from buckling under the myriad attacks the left has thrown at him already.
The left has been fantasizing about putting Trump in handcuffs since he snatched victory for the shriveled claws of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He has come out clean through several pseudo scandals, including Russia collusion, the Ukraine phone call, January 6, and most recently, the classified documents scandal.
Each time, the left breathlessly predicted Trump's demise, and each time Trump was cleared. Perhaps they will get what they want this time, but it won't end well for them.
Trump's base certainly will see it for the political prosecution and will coalesce behind him. However, other Republicans who may have strayed from Trump or never supported him might similarly be motivated to join the MAGA movement -- and that could be the final nail in the coffin for Democrats' 2024 hopes.
