President Joe Biden has turned his back on most of the American population. However, one key demographic is returning the favor.
Young voters are abandoning Biden in droves as the president’s approval rating with 18-29-year-olds plummeted 13 points, the Daily Caller reported. Biden took office with 59% approval from that group but now just 46% of young adults view him favorably.
The Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics poll published Wednesday seems to indicate that young Americans are following the same pattern as the rest of the nation. A Trafalgar Group and Convention of States poll had Biden’s overall approval at 54% after the inauguration but now have him pegged at only 36.3% in its own Wednesday findings.
However, Democrats consistently outperform in the young adult demographic, making this a significant development for their fate in the 2022 midterm elections. Among young Democrats, Biden dropped 10 points and fell 14 with young independents.
The problem for Biden is that he’s botched everything he’s touched, including the COVID-19 response and the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. However, it’s likely that his terrible economic policies are having the greatest impact on young adults.
The cost of consumer goods has skyrocketed — if you can even get them, according to The Hill. This means cash-strapped people just starting out in their lives are shelling out more for everything from food to gasoline.
“Many people remain unsettled about the economy, and we all know why,” Biden acknowledged during a Nov. 10 speech at the Port of Baltimore. “They see higher prices. They go to the store or go online, and they can’t find what they always want and when they want it, and we’re tracking these issues and figuring out how to tackle them head on.”
Biden doesn’t seem to be able to get a handle on any of it, and young voters are taking notice. Though they often remain loyal to Democrats, even young adults have their limits — and this time, that limit is at the bottom of their pocketbooks.
