Nancy Pelosi suggests she will be running for reelection crushing rumors that she will retire

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is addicted to power. Despite promises to the contrary, it appears she won’t be leaving leadership after all.

Pelosi has hinted that she will run for re-election in her San Francisco district though she has yet to make it official, Breitbart reported.Β  This would extend her time in office past the 2022 midterm elections despite promises she’d pass the torch.

This information comes at a time when support for Democrats is cratering. For her part, Pelosi has a RealClearPolitics favorability of only 33.3% while her unfavorability is at 58.3 % in the polls from October 16 to December 7.

Still, Pelosi is undeterred in running the Democratic Party into the ground. “She isn’t ruling out the possibility of trying to stay in leadership after 2022,” a source close to the California Democrat said.

When Pelosi took the speakership in 2018, it was with the express promise that this term would be her last. Back then, she was in favor of codifying limits on leadership positions such as hers. In December 2018, she touted an agreement that would essentially kick her out of a job as part of the deal for voting for her to take the speakership for two last terms.

“This proposal, which was developed by Members who care about the institution of the House of Representatives, would provide that Members in senior leadership positions can serve three terms with an additional term with two-thirds support of the Caucus,” Pelosi said at the time in a statement. “It would include the two terms of the Democratic Majority from 2007 to 2011.”

Pelosi was not popular with the radicals in her party, including “Squad” members like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). The progressive Democrat hinted at making a play for the position herself, but Pelosi ultimately won in part because of her assurance to step aside.

The octogenarian would do better to enjoy the limited time she has left on the planet, but instead, she’s apparently tightening her grip on political power. Democrats are ready for her to call it quits after a lifetime of politics — and so are the rest of us.
