Nancy Pelosi is making big threats – but she just got a reminder that’s she’s more vulnerable than she thinks.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy broke the news to her with a bombshell announcement – if Pelosi tries to impeach Trump again, she’ll face a motion to oust her from the Speaker’s position.
McCarthy made his position clear. If Pelosi tries to impeach the president, “we will take the movement to remove her from speakership.”
“I will make you this one promise, listening to the speaker on television this weekend, if she tries to move for an impeachment based upon the president following the Constitution, I think there will be a move on the floor to no longer have the question of her being Speaker. She may think she has a quiver — we do too,” McCarthy told reporters Wednesday.
Of course, the big issue for Republicans is that they don’t have the votes to oust Pelosi on their own. But that doesn’t mean that Pelosi should get complacent.
There are a lot of politicians on the Democrat side of the aisle that have a vested interest in Pelosi’s downfall, including the moderates who have criticized her handling of the coronavirus stimulus package, and the far-left squad, who have aspirations to leadership themselves.
Is it possible that disaffected Democrats join forces with Republicans to topple Pelosi? If 2020 has shown us anything, it’s that everything is a possibility.
