Nancy Pelosi allows Dems diagnosed with COVID-19 to travel to D.C. to cast votes for House Speaker

The mainstream media was quick to attack and cry “superspreader!” every time President Donald Trump or his allies held an event during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Those same standards are apparently not applied to Democratic politicians, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) just allowed Democrat colleagues that had been diagnosed with COVID-19 to break quarantine over the weekend in order to show up to the House for a chance to vote for the Speaker of the 117th Congress.

Of course, Pelosi’s reign as House Speaker was in serious jeopardy, given the razor-thin majority held by House Democrats, coupled with the fact that members are not allowed to cast virtual votes for the Speakership vote.

Pelosi gave the green light for three House members — two Democrats and one Republican — who were in quarantine, to show up for the physical vote, although they conducted their voting activities in a separate chamber on Sunday.

Adding to the outrage over her decision, which was clearly self-serving, the Speaker allowed Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) to attend for the in-person vote, even though just six days earlier she announced that she had tested positive for COVID-19.

“Nancy Pelosi’s grip on the speakership is so tenuous that she is forcing members exposed to coronavirus to break quarantine and come to the Capitol to vote for her and protect her political power,” one senior GOP aide reportedly told Breitbart.

The aide wasn’t exaggerating, either. According to ABC News, Pelosi only managed to squeak out the narrowest of victories, garnering 216 votes to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) 209 votes, making it embarrassingly clear that Pelosi was willing to break COVID-19 protocol simply to prevent a Republican from becoming Speaker in a Democrat-controlled House.

The California lawmaker was further criticized for the optics of allowing quarantined and COVID-19 positive lawmakers to attend the vote, given that just a week ago, 41-year-old Congressman-elect Luke Letlow died as a result of complications from COVID-19.

If roles were reversed and a Republican Speaker would have made the same careless decision, the mainstream media would already be calling for their resignation. But since it’s Pelosi, it’ll likely be a news story that never sees the light of day.
