Multiple outlets call Virginia for Youngkin as Republicans celebrate Virginia win

Political experts called the Virginia governor’s race early last night as Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin pulled away, expecting to become the next leader of the state.

“I’ve seen enough: Glenn Youngkin (R) defeats Terry McAuliffe (D) in the Virginia governor’s race,” Dave Wasserman of Redistrict tweeted by 8:26 p.m.

Wasserman’s announcement came after following several of the state’s counties, including Loudoun, where Youngkin performed well in early results.

Decision Desk HQ later agreed with Wasserman’s projection, also declaring Youngkin the likely winner.

Shortly after 1 a.m., Youngkin declared victory, celebrating with supporters in a video on Twitter.

The win makes Youngkin the first Republican leader of the state in more than a decade, signaling would could be a GOP comeback after losing power in 2020.
