The trial of Kyle Rittenhouse will decide whether the young man acted in self-defense or not. However, President Joe Biden and others seemed to have made up their minds before the facts of the case were even known — and that could amount to defamation.
Wendy Rittenhouse, Kyle’s mother, said she was “shocked” and “angry” when then-candidate Biden “defamed” her son by painting him as a white supremacist, the New York Post reported. Kyle Rittenhouse is on trial for murdering two during the Kenosha, Wisconsin, riots but claims self-defense.
During the runup to the 2020 presidential election, the Biden campaign cut an ad trying to corner former President Donald Trump for not condemning white supremacists during a debate. “There’s no other way to put it: the President of the United States refused to disavow white supremacists on the debate stage last night,” he tweeted about Trump.

The tweet included a video with Fox News’s Chris Wallace, who mediated the first debate on Sept. 29, 2020, probing Trump about supposedly not renouncing white supremacist groups. One of the stills used in the video was of Kyle Rittenhouse after Wallace’s voiceover question about “white supremacist groups and militia” committing violence in Kenosha.
“When I saw that, I was shocked, I was angry,” Wendy Rittenhouse said in an exclusive interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity Thursday. “President Biden don’t know my son whatsoever, and he’s not a white supremacist,” the 18-year-old’s mother said.
“He’s not a racist. And [Biden] did that for the votes,” she charged. “And I was so angry for a while at him and what he did to my son, he defamed him,” Wendy Rittenhouse added.
Kyle Rittenhouse has pleaded not guilty in the shooting deaths of Anthony Huber, 26 and Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, claiming self defense. He had also shot Gaige Grosskreutz, but the man survived. All of the men involved were white.
Video evidence seems to align with self-defense, but the media and Biden already had their narrative that Rittenhouse was a racist and smeared the then-17-year-old with that charge. It remains to be seen how the jury will decide the case, but there is zero evidence of any racial motive.
