More than 60 liberal organizations demand Dianne Feinstein's resignation

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) is being called upon to resign from her position by more than 60 left-leaning organizations that claim to speak for more than 110,000 Californians, according to Breitbart News.

“Complications from your illness threaten [your] storied legacy. Your absences hobble the elected Democratic Senate majority from doing the work of the people of California and our nation,” the groups stated.

The groups asserted that her absence from the committee is delaying the Democrats’ agenda in the Senate, including the confirmation of judges.

“We ask that you resign from the Senate to focus on your health,” they wrote. “Please allow Gov. [Gavin] Newsom to appoint an interim senator who can provide robust and constant representation for California though the election of 2024.”

The Democratic senator has said that she will not seek reelection to her comfortable blue seat in 2018. She has, however, missed votes because of health issues, delaying the confirmation of justices whom President Joe Biden has nominated.

Since being given a shingles diagnosis in February, Feinstein has missed many Senate votes. The Senate Judiciary Committee's impasse of 10-10 on several items during her absence has divided the committee in two between Democrats and Republicans.

“For three decades, 39 million Californians counted on you to be our hardworking voice in Washington, day in and day out. We still need a daily voice, now more than ever,” the group added.

“We respectfully  ask you to give one more gift of service to our great state by fully stepping back to allow a new appointee to carry forth and extend your legacy.”

Democrats attempted to replace her on the Senate Judiciary Committee in order to regain control of the body with an 11–10 majority.

However, the Republican Senate leadership and the party's rank-and-file members rejected the temporary change because they did not want to assist the Democrats in confirming more judges.

Activate America, Berkeley Now, Democracy Action Marin, Feminists in Action Los Angeles, and Women's March Santa Barbara are a few of the grassroots organizations in California that have signed on as signatories. There are also 62 local Indivisible chapters.

Feinstein is a prominent politician who has been serving as a Democratic Senator from California since 1992. Before entering politics, Feinstein worked as a prosecutor and served as the Mayor of San Francisco from 1978 to 1988, during which she was credited for handling the aftermath of the Jonestown Massacre.

In the Senate, Feinstein has been a leading advocate for gun control, women's rights, and environmental protection. She has also held several high-profile positions, including serving as the Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee and the Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Throughout her career, despite some controversy and criticism, she remains a respected and influential figure in American politics.
