Moderate Sen. Manchin continues to block radical Dems from passing progressive bills

Democrats were already struggling as far as legislative wins, as most of their radical ideas were sidelined or killed on sight by members of their own party.

According to The Hill, thanks to moderate Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), the Democratic Party might not have anything to show voters by Election Day in November, as he continues to signal that most of the major pieces of legislation drafted by his party, including a budget reconciliation bill, is too far to the left.

On major pieces of legislation, thanks to the even party split in the upper chamber, Democrats are usually doomed on such issues without all members of the caucus backing the legislation. Manchin’s moderate views have not only proven to be popular with Americans in general, but they have also saved America from a number of radical, ridiculous bills that otherwise would have been passed.

A number of Capitol Hill Democratic insiders told The Hill that attempting to negotiate with Manching on the big-ticket items, like the budget reconciliation bill, is becoming impossible.

“I think we need to have a come-to-Jesus moment,” the anonymous source, a lawmaker, said. “The backroom approach has not worked.”

Because of his unwillingness to bow to the radical left of his party, as most of his sellout colleagues have done, Manchin is often ribbed about transferring his political affiliate to the other side of the aisle, even sparking serious rumors last week that such a move could be a possibility, though he ultimately downplayed the buzz.

“I get that question every day. These are all my friends on both sides of the aisle,” Manchin said, referencing a book that made the claim that he might switch parties, given a few particular circumstances.

Manchin added: “The bottom line is I am a West Virginia Democrat. I’m not a Washington Democrat. And I’m not a very liberal person. I’m more of a centrist. I’m fiscally responsible and socially compassionate.”

Compared to one year ago, Manchin’s approval rating in his home state of West Virginia has skyrocketed by 17 points — a feat not even remotely matched by a single one of his congressional Democratic colleagues. Thankfully, there exists a Democrat in the Senate who can read the room, and not spend all his or her time appeasing the radical progressives in the party.
