Republican leadership in the Senate are calling on president Joe Biden to pull his nomination of the ATF’s new potential chief, according to Breitbart News.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Thursday that Biden should revoke his endorsement of David Chipman for the prestigious position after new information has surfaced about the candidate.
According to Breitbart’s report, Chipman has been accused of talking about Black agents working under him in derogatory ways when he was working at the Detroit ATF office.
The story by Stephen Gutowski surfaced in the midst of Chipman’s nomination and included information about multiple sources confirming that Chipman has made overtly racist comments while at the agency.
“The agents, who have decades of experience at the agency, told The Reload they heard the accusation that Chipman denigrated black ATF agents up for promotion,” Gutowski said in his report.
“The officials said they heard about Chipman’s alleged comments before they were referenced in a recent lawsuit seeking the release of the complaint,”
According to multiple reports Chipman said he was surprised at the number of African Americans who made it onto a promotional list for the ATF.
“So, his insinuation was that they had to have cheated. Which is kind of despicable,” a current ATF official told The Reload
The same report cited an ATF agent who worked directly with Chipman and said, “That one had to do with what’s called the assessment center, which would be to get promoted,’ the former agent told The Reload. “Somebody would have had to file a complaint against him if he were a supervisor making those statements.”
“He left Detroit because of that,” he said. “He did not leave Detroit on the best of terms. His reputation was that he was not nice to people.”
