Mitch McConnell pulls funding for Republican candidate who could unseat Democrat Maggie Hassan

There's a battle being waged in the Republican Party between the establishment and the future leaders. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has sided with the old guard once again.

The Senate Minority Leader is set to pull campaign funding from New Hampshire's GOP Senate candidate Gen. Don Bolduc, Breitbart reported. Previously, McConnell's Senate Leadership Fund had allocated $5.6 million to run television ads against incumbent Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH).

As of Oct. 25, the super PAC will pull the ads leaving Bolduc to fend for himself in the last weeks of the battle for the Senate. The National Republican Senatorial Committee, another campaign arm of the party, similarly withdrew funding from the Granite State.

It's unclear what the Republican leadership is thinking at this point. Bolduc is locked in a dead heat with his opponent, whom he has successfully painted as a yes-woman for President Joe Biden and his unpopular, destructive, and radical agenda.

"Look at what has happened to New Hampshire: historic inflation, people are hurting — they can't afford the necessities of life," Bolduc pointed out Tuesday during the candidates' debate. "We've got to get rid of career politicians," he added.

"Granite Staters say, 'Number one problem is career politicians,'" Bolduc said. "Twenty years, right there," he added while pointing to Hassan.

Now it appears McConnell, another career politician, is favoring establishment Republicans while pulling funding from Bolduc. The retired one-star general is left twisting in the wind while Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), who supported impeaching former President Donald Trump, is raking in $9 million from the party to support her slight lead in the polls.

There are many funding decisions that simply come down to dollars and cents. However, it seems there's been a concerted effort to downplay the influence of Trump and the newer guard who support change in Washington, D.C. -- and it's clear what happens when a man like McConnell is the one holding the purse strings.
