Michigan lawmakers repealed Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s emergency powers on Wednesday following allegations of her overreach during the pandemic.
“As the governor issued unilateral orders around the Legislature, people felt like they had lost their voice in Lansing and had no representation,” state Rep. Matt Hall (R) said during debate, according to Breitbart News.
“They felt the system was not working for them,” he added.
“Those concerned and impacted by these unilateral actions, including many small business owners and families, began circulating this petition because they felt they had no other way for their voice to be heard,” Hall said.
Next, we’ll turn our attention to the public health law Whitmer abused to destroy lives, businesses, and futures. Don’t bet against our success there either. 2/

Organizers with the group Unlock Michigan gathered more than 540,000 signatures to draw attention to the issue.
The group also plans to work against the governor’s public health laws that they believe were violated as a result of decision made in response to COVID-19.
The decision showed democracy as work, as Michigan’s citizens led the effort to change political power they believed was unjust. The governor will also now face a much strong challenge when it comes to reelection, as more than a half million voters are already opposed to her actions.
