The Republican Party of Michigan filed a complaint on Friday with the state’s Bureau of elections over private plane use by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
“There is no individual or organization who should have paid for the Governor’s luxury personal travel to Florida except for Governor Whitmer herself,” the filing said, according to The Daily Caller.
“This is abundantly clear in light of the numerous complaints being filed against her and the organizations associated with this trip with various state and federal agencies.
“We ask that the Secretary of State immediately investigate this conduct and penalize all responsible parties to the fullest extent of the law,” the complaint added.
The Washington Examiner reported, “The complaint alleged Michigan Transition, a nonprofit group established to facilitate Whitmer’s inauguration in 2019, paid the $27,521 cost of the flight.”
The report added, “Then, after the matter became public despite Whitmer going to ‘great lengths’ to keep the plane use secret, the filing said the governor offered personally to reimburse $855, which covered the equivalent costs of first-class flight seats for herself and her daughters.”
Whitmer’s Florida travels have faced much scrutiny in recent weeks. In addition to breaking her own COVID-19 rules, she has been caught lying about her personal travels and later apologizing.
The latest move by the Michigan GOP seeks to end these actions with hope of future new conservative leadership for the people of the state.
