Former First Lady Michelle Obama just revealed that she has been diagnosed with “some form of low-grade depression” due to current events and “seeing this administration, watching the hypocrisy of it, day in and day out.”
Obama, who is known for her upbeat and positive public persona, revealed in a surprisingly candid podcast episode that she is so distressed by Trump that she is experiencing mental problems as a result.
In the latest episode of The Michelle Obama Podcast, Obama revealed:
’Im waking up in the middle of the night, cause I’m worrying about something, or there’s a heaviness. I try to make sure I get a workout in, although there have been periods throughout this quarantine, where I just have felt too low.
You know, I’ve gone through those emotional highs and lows that I think everybody feels, where you just don’t feel yourself, and sometimes there’s been a week or so where I had to surrender to that, and not be so hard on myself. And say, you know what, you’re just not feeling that treadmill right now.
She continued, “I know that I am dealing with some form of low-grade depression. Not just because of the quarantine, but because of the racial strife, and just seeing this administration, watching the hypocrisy of it, day in and day out, is dispiriting.”
Donald Trump’s very existence has elicited a shocking emotional response from a large contingent of the left since he announced his candidacy for the 2016 election — some characterize it as Trump Derangement Syndrome, a satirical term to describe the irrational and emotional hatred and fear of all things Trump.
Even before the pandemic and the explosion of racial unrest following the death of George Floyd in May, researchers were beginning to notice a pattern of mental health disturbances linked that appear to stem from Trump’s mere presence in the oval office.
Though Trump Derangement Syndrome is not a medically recognized diagnosis, the Washington Post reported in July of 2019 that some doctors have seen an uptick in signs of anxiety, depression, and stress in their patients that they claim are linked to Trump’s rhetoric and policies.
It appears that Michelle Obama may be experiencing a similar phenomenon.
