House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) made headlines by sending a memo on Wednesday evening that showed how little House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) has had Congress in session in 2021, according to The Daily Caller.
The minority leader seemed to be making a jab at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with the memo that was obtained by the Daily Caller and sent to House staffers.
According to the memo, Congress has been in session for almost 100 fewer hours than in 2019, and the current 117th congress has only had 156 votes, compared to more than 200 votes that the 116th congress conducted.
“As restaurants and bars open up, mask mandates end, and folks return to work… you think Congress would do the same. Yet, this Majority has failed to show up for the American people,” McCarthy’s memo stated.
“So far this Congress, we have spent roughly 365 hours in session. Just last Congress, in the very same period of time, we were already in session for over 460 hours. This is no surprise, since as of last week, the House has been in session for only 43 days.”
The incensed minority leader didn’t pull any punches saying that “the numbers don’t lie” and asserting that “Speaker Pelosi and Democrats don’t bother to show up to work on behalf of their constituents,” saying it points to Democrats not deserving a majority in the House.
“This is the laziest Congress I can remember and voters will definitely remember Democrats’ mismanaged majority,” a GOP aide told the Daily Caller.
According to the memo, there are 30 House Democrats who have still not shown up in person to vote at all, but have voted exclusively by proxy.
