Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell just announced on Thursday his gratitude that David Chipman’s controversial nomination had been withdrawn to lead the ATF.

“Glad to hear reports the White House is taking my advice and pulling the terrible nomination of David Chipman,” McConnell tweeted.

“Absurd that a vocal opponent of Americans’ constitutional rights was ever picked to run ATF. This is a win for the Second Amendment and law-abiding American citizens,” he added.

Chipman’s nomination had been filled with controversy, especially from Americans who strongly support the Second Amendment.

The AFT nominee had expressed his support for wanting to ban AR-15 rifles, the most popular rifle in America, in addition to other increased gun controls.

“These were serious charges, not to be taken lightly, but the fact is that it was an anonymous claim in the press without any corroboration. That has changed. In a July 28 article at the independent news site The Reload, it was reported that multiple current and former ATF agents corroborated that they had heard that Mr. Chipman had made racially insensitive comments while serving in the Detroit field office of the agency,” McConnell argued in July.

With the end of Chipman’s nomination, the process will being once again, but at least on controversial nominee from the Biden administration’s agenda has successfully been kept out of leadership in Washington.
