Emails were mistakenly sent to Fox News that showed that people within the campaign for Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe tried to stop a story about a high profile attorney hired to deal with election legal challenges.
The attorney, Marc Elias, has worked with the firm Hillary Clinton used in 2016 in opposition research against then-presidential candidate Donald Trump.
The choice of the controversial lawyer came as a surprise to many.
“McAuliffe may be preparing to challenge any win by Republican Glenn Youngkin. He has given $53,680 to the Elias Law Group. McAuliffe does not appear disturbed by Elias’ highly controversial career or his possible exposure in the Durham investigation,” legal expert Jonathan Turley tweeted.

The news also came as Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin has risen in recent polls and momentum.
1000+ energetic Virginians showed up on a rainy Thursday evening in Augusta County because they are sick and tired of the same old polices and politicians of the past. It’s time for a new day in Virginia. #WinWithGlenn pic.twitter.com/YLZw86aeZ5

The election will soon reveal the results, but the latest twist shows any controversy could lead to an extended election challenge that could extend the decision regarding the new governor even longer.
