Martha's Vineyard homeless coordinator: Migrant arrivals must be moved 'somewhere else'

Progressives everywhere have been beside themselves with outrage this week, ever since Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent a group of migrants to the posh enclave of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, and despite liberal residents' claims to welcome and accept all comers, Fox News reports that, according to one local organizer, the arrivals will soon need to be moved "somewhere else."

Martha's Vineyard homeless coordinator Lisa Belcastro addressed reporters Thursday regarding her community's response to the small influx, stating that the town lacks the resources to provide the migrants with long-term assistance and will likely need to send them away.

"We don't have the services to take care of 50 immigrants, and we certainly don't have housing. We can't house everyone here that lives here and works here," Belcastro explained. "We don't have housing for 50 more people."

The controversy erupted when DeSantis chartered aircraft to take over 50 illegals – many of whom hail from Venezuela – north to the wealthy summer resort town where the likes of former President Barack Obama own massive, multi-million dollar compounds, as the New York Post noted.

Though, as John Hinderaker of Powerline noted, Martha's Vineyard is famous for the loaded liberals who summer there, many of whom proudly display "All Are Welcome Here" signs on their lawns to project their support for President Joe Biden's open border policies – perhaps just not when the consequences of that stance actually appear at their swanky doorsteps.

In response to the apoplexy that gripped leftists in the wake of his decision to fly a comparatively small number of illegals to the Bay State, DeSantis pointed out the blatant hypocrisy in their approach and the discrepancies between their political posturing and their actual conduct when confronted with the predictable results of the policies they champion.

"The minute even a small fraction of what those border towns deal with every day is brought to their front door, they go berserk, and they're so upset that this is happening. And it just shows you that their virtue signaling is a fraud," DeSantis declared.

The obvious logic of that assessment aside, prominent progressives continued with their hyperbolic criticisms of the governor's move, with famed documentary filmmaker Ken Burns going so far as to draw a comparison between the relocation of migrants to Martha's Vineyard and the horrors of the Holocaust, blasting what he called DeSantis' "abstraction of human life" and his decision "to weaponize human beings for a political purpose."

Fortunately, Fox News' Tucker Carlson was ready and willing to unload on Burns' absurd take, noting sarcastically that "Yeah. 50 migrants arriving on a gorgeous island off the coast of New England is exactly like Hitler slaughtering 6 million Jews" and underscoring DeSantis' entire purpose in sending them there, saying, "[p]eople who make and advocate for certain policies should, at some point, have to live with those policies." So far, it appears the limousine liberals aren't handling that harsh reality terribly well.
