Majority Whip Emmer on Mayorkas: 'He should be impeached'

Congressional Republicans are coming together more by the day in their shared thoughts that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas should be impeached.

According to a Breitbart exclusive, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) is one of the latest top Republicans to call for the impeachment of the DHS secretary, who many believe botched the southern border to the point that it is a direct threat to American lives.

"Because Mayorkas has not resigned, 'he should be impeached,' Emmer told Breitbart News," the outlet noted.

Emmer made his thoughts on Mayorkas and the illegal immigration crisis at the border during a recent sit down with Breitbart at his Capitol Hill office.

"They talk about being humane. Children are disappearing. People are getting killed," Emmer said. "You’ve got 80 people that have come across the southern border that are on the terrorist watch list."

Emmer's interview came the day after Title 42 ended, a Trump-era policy that virtually acted as the last thread holding on to some sense of control at the border.

Breitbart noted:

Emmer’s commentary is however GOP leadership’s strongest rebuke yet of Biden’s border chief and serves as an escalation from earlier this year, when the Minnesota Republican said impeachment was merely “possible” given the surging illegal migration that has occurred since Biden took office.

Now that it's gone, and since Biden's White House doesn't seem to be too concerned with the disastrous situation, many politicians and American voters want to see Mayorkas held accountable for the chaos at the border.

While Mayorkas' impeachment would presumably please just about any Republican voter, a number of people reacted to Emmer's comments, with many calling into question whether or not Republicans have the fortitude to draw up articles of impeachment for the DHS secretary.

"It should have happened long ago. Same with Biden but all the GOP does is talk. No action," one Twitter user wrote.

Another Twitter user added: "Majority Whip Tom Emmer is "calling" for impeachment Like House Republicans are 'split' on whether to hold FBI Director Wray in contempt of congress for ignoring a subpoena Absolutely gutless... All they do is just talk talk talk."

Others were surprised that Mayorkas has been able to hold the job as long as he has, given his mounting list of failures.

Only time will tell if House Republicans use their newfound power to begin the impeachment process, but it looks like quite a few Americans are hopeful that they will, sooner than later.
