A new poll has confirmed that the majority of voters believe President Joe Biden will not complete his first term in office and Vice President Kamala Harris will replace him.
The McLaughlin & Associates survey, conducted between May 12 to 18 from more than 1,000 voters, showed 64 percent believed it was “likely” Harris will be president before the next election.
The results varied strongly between parties. Republicans held a stronger view with 77 percent. Democrats held the “likely” view by 50 percent.
In addition, respondents were asked how how they would “vote in the general election for president between Donald Trump, the Republican candidate and Kamala Harris, the Democrat candidate” in 2024. Results were 49 percent Trump, 45 percent Harris.
Among Independents, 48 percent were likely to vote for Trump.
The results were announced as Vice President Harris continues to take leadership in a variety of new roles. She has also traveled on behalf of the Biden administration much more frequently than the president.
Trump was recently reported as planning to restart his famous political rallies again this summer. He has not announced a run for president in 2024, but has repeatedly teased a run.
The survey shows many Americans do not expect Biden to run again in 2024. A majority in the poll do not even believe he will finish one term.
