Majority of Independents in New Hampshire do not support Biden's student loan scheme

Most independents in New Hampshire disagree with President Joe Biden's new student loan program, which he unveiled in August and will forgive up to $20,000 in debt for selected borrowers, according to a poll according to Breitbart News.

According to a University of New Hampshire study, the majority of Democrats, Biden's political party, supported the president's new student loan plan, but the majority of independents and Republicans, who have recently grown to be a large voting bloc, opposed it.

According to a recently released poll, 86% of Democrats support Biden's plan to forgive student loans, while 8% stated they oppose it. Five percent of Democrats were indifferent, and one percent were doubtful or unsure of anything.

Only 33% of independents backed Biden's initiative, while the majority (59%) were against it. Additionally, 3% of respondents were overall neutral, and 4% were unsure or did not know.

Republicans were overwhelmingly opposed to Biden's recent student loan plan (88%); only 5% supported it. Additionally, 6% of respondents reported being overall neutral.

Granite Staters are divided; 44% said they would back Biden's plan, while 49% said they would oppose it. Additionally, 5% of respondents were overall neutral, and 1% either did not know or were doubtful.

Last month, Biden made a decision to forgive up to $20,000 in federal student loan debt for Pell Grant recipients and up to $10,000 for those borrowers who earn less than $125,000 annually. Giving "working and middle-class families breathing room" with regard to student loans, according to the president, was a "campaign promise."

Debt cancellation alone might cost up to $519 billion, according to the University of Pennsylvania's Penn Wharton Budget Model research, but total plan costs "could reach $1 trillion depending on future IDR program details to be revealed and potential behavioral (i.e., "non-static") changes."

From August 15 to August 29, 1,993 members of the Granite State Panel participated in the University of New Hampshire Survey Center's Granite State survey.
